Over 45% of Corporate India suffers from some form of stress !
A high 46% of the workforce in organizations in India suffers from some or the other form of stress , according to the latest data from Optum. The sample size of 200,000 employees (over 30 large employers) who took an online Health Risk Assessment during the first quarter of 2016.
The study found 43% with skewed BMI (body mass index), of which 30% with diabetic risk, 30% with hypertension risk and 46% high on stress. This number is about 30% higher than a survey that it conducted in 2014 with a sample size of 30,000. Commonly accepted BMI ranges are underweight: under 18.5, normal weight: 18.5 to 25, overweight: 25 to 30, obese: over 30.

To keep up with the health consciousness of their employees and to encourage camaraderie between colleagues, companies have started offering Zumba classes, yoga and stretch workout sessions, etc. Some have also set up gymnasiums with state-of-the-art equipment. "Times have changed and so has an employee's lifestyle. Some employees quite literally have a back-breaking life. A well thought of fitness programme goes a long way in maintaining an employee's health," says HR consultant Rajeev Rao. "Along with fitness training, a lot of corporates are focussing on helping employees adopt healthy eating habits," adds Rao. With employees increasingly emphasizing on nutritious diets, many offices have introduced salad and juice bars in their cafeteria.
Complete wellbeing
Many companies have simple to elaborate set ups to help employees maintain their health. Says health trainer Kishore Dange, "Internation ally, a number of workspaces have designed fitness friendly spaces with jogging tracks, pedometers and body weights. It helps employees keep fit and reduce stress." However, it is not mandatory to invest a lot of capital on high-tech gyms.
