Dell Inspiron: Dell launches the world's first 17-inch 2-in-1 laptop
Dell’s latest 17-inch laptop is also a tablet that’s too heavy to hold.
If Dell's new Inspiron laptops are any indication, there's still a market for desktop replacement notebooks. The Inspiron 7000 line, introduced at Computex in Taiwan, now includes a 17-inch behemoth that Dell claims is the world's first 2-in-1 laptop of its size.
Typically, when a company says that a computer is a 2-in-1 that means it’s both a tablet and a laptop. With Dell’s new Inspiron 7000, that’s still true, but on a scale we haven’t seen before and it might be a bit much (in terms of weight) for some.
The company also updated its 11-inch, 13-inch, and 15-inch Inspiron 2-in-1 models, as well as its 15-inch and 17-inch Inspiron 5000 conventional notebooks. The new 2-in-1s will be available beginning June 2 on Dell's website, with the Inspiron 5000 notebooks going on sale later this year.
Samsung Galaxy View tablet the only competitor of New Dell Inspiron |
As a portable multimedia device, I like the Inspiron 7000 a lot more than the 18.4-inch Galaxy View “tablet” that Samsung was trying to convince us we need. At least you can plunk the Dell down on a desk and bang out a report or comfortably crunch numbers in Excel using the full numeric keypad.
You may never find a reason to switch to Windows 10’s tablet mode with this thing, but at least it’s there if you feel like experimenting.
Exactly they are experimenting, but we can trust Windows for it's performance as a laptop & Tablet.
