This is not a drill: There's going to be a remake of 'Andaz Apna Apna'
Hold up everyone. A remake of Andaz Apna Apna is happening.
After there was much talk about roping in Salman Khan and Aamir Khan to remake their cult classic film Andaz Apna Apna, Phantom Films has actually gone ahead and put action to words.
The rights of the film is with one Preeti Sinha, who is the daughter of producer Vinay Sinha who also financed the original.
According to Mumbai Mirror, she has given the rights to Phantom Films and will be collaborating with them on the project. A source tells Mirror, "It will be an in-house director at the helm, if not Vikas Bahl, it will be Vikramaditya Motwane."
The script for the film has been locked, and no other details have been revealed.
Andaz Apna Apna was released in 1994, and didn't immediately do well at the box office. However, over time, it became a cult classic and is arguably one of the better comedies of the 90s. In the film, Aamir and Salman play two conman who travel to meet a rich industrialist's daughter Raveena (played by Raveena Tandon), who is looking for an Indian husband.
With characters like Crime Master Gogo, Teja, Robert and Bhalla, this film is every 90s kid's favourite. Can the remake make a similar impact? Watch this space.
Meanwhile, here's what Twitterati has to say:
