after udta punjab now censor board wants 100 cuts in movie based on gujarat quota issue

After Ekta Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap produced Udta Punjab finally got clearance from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and a green signal from Bombay High Court, another movie has run into controversy with the Censor Board.
Now, the Gujarati movie named Salagto Sawaal Anamat (Burning Question of Reservation) allegedly based on young Patidar Andolan leader Hardik Patel have hit a roadblock with the Censor Board.
Notably, CBFC has demanded 10 cuts in the movie for it to be cleared. The movie is based on the reservation controversy in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state Gujarat. The Patidars in the state came together in July 2015 and started the agitation in demand of quota in job and education sector.
The censor board has questioned the motive of filmmakers and also mentioned that the protagonist strongly resembles the firebrand leader of quota agitation, Hardik Patel, who is currently in jail on charges of sedition. The board has objected that the movie shows Patel in a glamorous light.
The co-producer of the movie, Jaypratapsinh Chauhan told TOI that they have filed an appeal against the decision before the review committee. Among the cuts suggested by the board, they have demanded the removal of the word 'Patidar' or 'Patel' from every movie scene.
The director of the movie Rajesh Gohil has been asked to remove the references to BR Ambedkar who campaigned against social discrimination faced by Dalits. He is now prepared to move the court like Anurag Kashyap did for Udta Punjab.
"This is an attempt to curb the freedom of expression and creativity. I tried to convince them that the film is not exactly based on Hardik Patel. But they argued that the protagonist looked similar to the jailed quota leader," Gohil said.
He also mentioned that removal of the word 'Patidar' from the movie will vanish away its soul. The movie was slated for release on July 17 but will be postponed now till they get a clearance from the censor board.
