Sonia & Rahul Gandhi released after courting arrest; attack Modi government: 10 things #MarchOfDemocracy

Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday participated in a 'March of Democracy' at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. #MarchOfDemocracy

Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday courted arrest at Parliament Street police station. Top party leaders courted arrest after they were stopped from marching to Parliament. They were released after a short while.

The top Congress leaders participated in a ‘March of Democracy’ at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, warning the Modi government of consequences of spreading “lies and falsehood”, in what appears to be a veiled reference to the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal scam controversy.

Addressing a Congress rally, Sonia Gandhi urged her party workers to take up the task of spreading the “truth” about Modi government to every corner of the country. “Modi government is trying to destroy the roots of democracy,” she accused.

On his part Rahul Gandhi mocked the government’s agenda of bringing “acche din” for the country, questioning the state of an economy that is reeling under drought.

We take a look at ten things Sonia and Rahul Gandhi said:
1) Sonia Gandhi: Today, we have come together to give a message that we will not let Modi government topple democracy. Congress will not buckle under any form of injustice and will take detractors head on. Life has taught me to struggle, we have faced a lot of challenges. They don’t know what we are made of.

2) Sonia Gandhi: Students are being subject to atrocities. At the blink of an eye they (Modi government) declare anyone a traitor. But, these people have to realise that when limits are crossed, then people show governments how to be within limits. The days are up for this government.

3) Sonia Gandhi: Congress-led governments in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh dislodged by Modi regime by use of money power

4) Sonia Gandhi: They (Modi government) are spreading rumours and falsehood. Character assassination is an old game for them. They have put all their might against Congress. I want to warn them that they should not think of Congress as weak. We will play the role of an aware opposition. We will fight them both in the Parliament and outside it.

5) Sonia Gandhi: I appeal to all Congreessmen that this march that we are doing doing, we should take this up in every place of the country. We have to make people aware of the reality of this government. We will not let them destroy the democracy.

6) Rahul Gandhi: Modi ji had spoken of acche din, but today the country is reeling under drought, farmers are committing suicides, but Modi ji has nothing to say. 40% of the country is affected by drought.

7) Rahul Gandhi: Modi ji spoke about giving 2 crore jobs every year, we saw ‘Make in India’ on TV channels and big shows in Mumbai. But the reality is that only 1.3 lakh jobs were given in one year.

8) Rahul Gandhi: They forcefully toppled our governments in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh. These were elected governments. They are breaking the law.

9) Rahul Gandhi: They are mandating that only those who have passed 10th class are legible to fight for panchayat elections. As a result, the doors of democracy have been closed for lakhs of Dalit women.

10) Rahul Gandhi: Aaj hindustan mein sirf do logon ki baat chalti hai, Narendra Modi ji aur Mohan Bhagwat ji.
