Zakir Naik's Peace TV and its videos are banned, but guess where they are made

Image
Zakir Naik's now-infamous Peace  TV  has its offices in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, the USA and the UK, but none in India. Officially speaking. However, India - more specifically, the tiny area of Dongri in South Mumbai - is actually where Naik's videos are made. A bit of background: Naik's 'provocative'  Peace TV speeches and videos are said to have inspired some of the Bangladeshi terrorists, who killed 22 people, mostly foreigners, in the month of Ramzan at an upscale restaurant in Dhaka on 1 July. For the past 11 years,  Peace TV  videos have been produced - if not made - in Dongri. The residents of the crowded Dongri area are predominantly members of the Muslim community. The production company that produces the videos is called Harmony Media Pvt Ltd and it is a medium-scale video and television production company that produces religious and educational videos to be telecast across various channels. An app launched last month by the French government to alert users to attacks failed to flash a warning until more than three hours after a truck rammed into crowds in the Riviera city of Nice on Bastille day, the interior ministry said. The app, called SAIP, was launched by the interior ministry just before the Euro 2016 soccer championship and was supposed to flash a warning on a user's mobile phone screen if there was an attack close to their location or suspicion of an imminent strike. The app did not send its first notification until 0134 am local time (2334 GMT), more than three hours after the 31-year Tunisian drove down the Promenade des Anglais seaside boulevard, killing 84 people and injuring scores more. "Information related to the attack in Nice on July 14 was sent out much too late by the SAIP app," the interior ministry said in a statement, adding that the app's designers had been summoned to a crisis meeting on Friday afternoon. Found Ola cab driver being a Stalker secretly filmed Woman!

Image
A woman in Delhi has alleged on Facebook that an Ola cab driver secretly filmed her on his mobile phone, something which brings back horrific memories of other cases of sexual harassment or assault in cabs owned by taxi aggressors. Priyanka Gusain in her Facebook post said that while she was travelling to Chanakyapuri in an Ola cab, she sensed something strange about the cab driver Abhilash Singh. Later, she noticed a phone which the driver had in his hand at an angle which allowed him to film her in the cab. She then asked the driver to pull over, after which she confiscated his phone and found out that the driver had been indeed filming her in the cab. "There it was, a video of me, all of me. My every gesture, movement, each word uttered was recorded on his phone. Never in my life did I ever feel this violated. Imagine, had I not known, some random stranger would have been walking around with a video of me in his phone, in his pocket, meant to be shared or something,

Image
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is unlikely to apologise for his defamatory remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, sources said on Tuesday. Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court wrapped up the Gandhi scion for his remarks asking him to either apologise or face trial in the case. "If you won't apologise, you will have to face trial," the court said pulling up the Congress leader for his remarks. "We have held it may be historically correct but the factor the statement has to meet the test of a public good. You can't make collective denunciation," a Bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and RF Nariman said. The Bench said that "freedom is not crippled or curbed. What is curbed is freedom of speech. What the writers, politicians, critics or antagonists say, you must have the great magnitude to swallow". The bench questioned the speech made by Rahul and wondered "why he made a speech quoting wrong historical fact"

Former Supreme Court judges H S Bedi and M Y Eqbal are members of the committee constituted by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) to formulate measures on how to stop such jokes, which, according to a PIL, are a violation of their right to equality and an attack on the dignity of the Sikh community. In three days, 19-year-old Yogesh Kumar has to make up his mind on either forsaking the opportunity of getting a job with the CRPF or to convert to Islam. He is a Hindu but people from his caste, according to a quirky government order, are Muslim. “I belong to the Rana caste, which was considered part of the Dholi community under the other backward class category till 2013. There are Hindus as well as Muslims in my caste,” Kumar said. “But the ministry of social justice decided that members of my caste had converted to Islam from Hinduism in the Mughal era and, so, people from my caste are marked as Muslims after 2013.” Besides the Rana caste, anybody from Nagarchi-Damami, and Baiti (Barot) castes are also considered Muslim. “In observations made by the OBC commission in 2013, it was decided that those who are Hindu and also from these three castes will come under the scheduled caste category, but no circular has been issued till date in this regard,” said Kumar, who is ori

How to deal with Zakir Naik? Not by force, but with a perception-based counter-narrative

Image
Can a phenomenon be eliminated by force? No. That is what the experts feel about televangelist preacher Zakir Naik, who has virtually achieved a phenomenal status. According to them, by controlling law and order and using the state machinery, the popularity gained by Naik can't be erased. As per the confession of one of the militants involved in the Dhaka terror attack, the Mumbai-based Muslim preacher Naik, through his narratives on Islam, motivated him into terrorism Counter-terrorism analysts believe in the need for a counter-narrative based on perception management, to eliminate the growing influence of Naik and his ilk on young minds.Way ba ck in the nineties, stock market broker Harshad Mehta, who was known as the 'Big Bull', became a phenomenon for that generation. But once his stock manipulations and financial crimes became public knowledge, a negative perception got created against him. The phenomenon, thus, got shattered. The key is to use perception

He had also asked if the NIA can give it in writing that the officers, who arrested the suspects, woul

Army, Paramilitary Can't Use 'Excessive And Retaliatory Force' in Manipur: By Order Supreme Court

Image
Seeking details of 1,528 alleged fake encounters in Manipur, the Supreme Court on Friday observed that Army and paramilitary personnel cannot use "excessive and retaliatory force" in the state. While hearing a petition demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged encounters, the apex court said it is open to Army conducting its own inquiries into allegations of fake encounters in Manipur, which has been plagued by insurgency for several decades. According to the petitioners, security forces operate under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act which makes it extremely difficult to prosecute the soldiers accused of fake encounters. Under the AFSPA, the state police needs Centre’s permission before taking any action against the soldiers.

You Should Know About Modi's Security!

Image
Being the Prime Minister of the world's largest democracy, Shri Narendra Modi's security is top-notch. Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoys double the security cover of his predecessor Manmohan Singh in terms of commandos of the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) and vehicles in his cavalcade. The reason: No other Prime Minister except Rajiv Gandhi was under such a threat as Modi from militant groups," a Delhi Police officer told anonymously.  Modi has been given "watertight security" due to the frequent threat alerts received from the intelligence agencies. To guard Modi, over 1,000 commandos remain around him in various layers, unlike Manmohan Singh who had just 600 men in his inner security circle. They are generally armed with FN F2000 Assault Rifles and Glock 17 Pistols (hidden in their suits) and are well connected with the rest of the security detail, through a myriad of communication devices.
