State Bank of India  (SBI) has offered to have a one-time settlement of the Kingfisher Airlines loan issue with India's former liquor baron Vijay Mallya. However, the bank would like him to agree that he would repay the outstanding principal amount along with some interest and legal fees.  To this, Mallya has put some conditions which are said to unacceptable to the bank, as said by SBI chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya.  Bhattacharya told a parliamentary panel, set up for scrutinizing amendments to debt recovery laws, that in the past, SBI has aggressively tackled the matter and is now open to reaching one-time settlements, only if he offers to repay the principal along with a reasonable amount of interest.  However, she said that while Mallya had expressed his willingness to have a settlement, he had laid down some of his conditions which were not acceptable to the country's largest bank, which led the consortium of PSBs that had approached the court for an order agains

Styletag, a portal for curated designer wear, has appointed former Flipkart vice president Michael Mehran Adnani as its CEO. Adnani will oversee the firm’s operations and spearhead its growth, a report by PTI said. A veteran in the e-commerce space, Adnani’s previous stint was as vice president of strategic brand alliances at Flipkart. Prior to Flipkart, he has worked at Sears Holdings, Nextag and Overstock. Queries sent by Techcircle on the appointment did not elicit any response till the time of filing this report. Styletag organises flash sales for curated styles, offering 70% discounts on designer products, which are curated from established designers as well as new players. Freedom 251: Ringing Bells Says Will Begin Phone Deliveries From June 28

Ringing Bells, a little-known company that ran into controversy after announcing the Freedom 251 - a Rs. 251 smartphone, now claims it will start deliveries of the handset to customers from June 28. Deliveries will start to customers who have registered for buying the phone, Noida-based company's Managing Director Mohit Goel said. "We will start shipment of Freedom 251 from June 28 to customers who paid for it earlier on COD (cash-on-delivery) basis," he told Press Trust of India. Ringing Bells began selling the handset, Freedom 251, via its website in February. But the launch of the smartphone, touted to be the world's cheapest, swirled into controversy, with some calling it a fraudulent scheme. The website of the company also crashed during two-day sale due to the huge response from prospective buyers. The company claimed that around 30,000 customers had booked the phone in the first batch despite the glitch. The company, however, withdrew the produc

5G in India could be a reality, thanks to Ericsson and Nokia

Telecom gear makers Ericsson and Nokia have initiated talks with Indian telecom companies and policy makers so that they could look out for possible engagements in fifth-generation (5G) technology.  5G, which is still in its standardisation phase, is likely to be ready for commercial deployment by 2020.  The talks have begun around telcos' interest and preparedness for 5G, while also identifying relevant spectrum band so that it can be supported. Executives from both Ericsson and Nokia, whihc are globally known for their rivalry, have visited Inida to hold meetings with industry stakeholders.  Magnus Ewerbring, CTO of the APAC region at Ericsson, was recently in India to meet telco customers and government officials. "It's important to start to think about it now and ensure that step by step we are prepared for it both from network and regulatory perspectives," he said.  Ewerbring also said that there is already a good understanding of 5G in India. On Monday, LinkedIn Corporation and Microsoft Corp announced about entering into an agreement under which LinkedIn would be acquired by Microsoft at a cost of  $196 per share  in an all-cash transaction, the value of which was  $26.2 billion i.e. Rs 1,75,802 Crore , inclusive of the net cash of LinkedIn. LinkedIn would be retaining its independence, culture and distinct brand. Jeff Weiner would maintain his CEO position in LinkedIn and would report to Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella. This transaction is completely supported by Weiner and Reid Hoffman, the controlling shareholder, co-founder and chairman of the board of LinkedIn. It is expected that the transaction would be closing this calendar year. Facebook and Microsoft team up to lay a massive internet cable across the Atlantic!! A 4,100-mile cable capable of 160 terabits per second.     T he companies deal with a tremendous amount of data every day, whether it's showing photos to Facebook's 1.6 billion users, or loading documents stored in Microsoft's cloud services. Instead of solely relying on telecom companies for bandwidth, they're taking matters into their own hands. Called MAREA, Spanish for "tide," the cable will offer speeds of up to 160 terabytes per second, making it the highest capacity cable running this route, according to the companies. It's not the first time consumer tech companies have branched out into infrastructure.  Google  has been busy building its Google Fiber business to bring broadband connections to U.S. cities.  Facebook    and Google are working on experimental tools like giant balloons and laser-equipped drones to bring internet to underserved locations.
